Flexible Instruction (Virtual) Days

Flexible Instruction (Virtual) Days

When inclement weather impacts in-person school operations, we may have a Flexible Instruction (Virtual) Day.

Q. What is a Flexible Instruction Day?

A Flexible Instructional Day (FID) is a program available to public school entities to be used as an alternative approach to delivering instruction if a circumstance arises that prevents in-person instruction.

Q. Will every snow day (or weather-related impact day) be a Flexible Instruction (Virtual) day?

NO. Not every weather emergency will work for a remote learning day. For example, if a large number of students and teachers are without power, we may need to consider it a traditional snow day. In this situation, we would announce that schools are closed and a separate plan for making up the day later in the school year would be provided.

Q. How are families notified of a Flexible Instruction Day?

The district website, our social media outlets and local news channels will all display changes to our normal in-person learning schedule.

Q. What is expected of students and teachers on Flexible Instruction Days?

  • Assignments will be posted by your child's teacher(s) within a 2-hour-delay window on the flexible instruction (virtual) day. [By 9:30 AM for MS/HS and by 10:50 AM for elementary students.]
  • Work will be asynchronous. There will be NO live lessons.
  • Students can submit work ON the flexible instruction day or if they are having difficulty due to loss of power/internet connectivity, they can submit work up to 3 in-person school days after the FID.
  • Teachers will offer a 40-minute open office hour (virtually) for students who might have questions or would like help with an assignment.

Q. What happens if my child's teacher doesn't post an assignment?

If teachers are unable to post work or have office hours due to power outages or internet disruptions at their own homes, they have been instructed to call their building administrators who will communicate with you.
