Amy Tran Swensen graduated from NL in 1998.  After high school, she earned a degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she was a goalkeeper for the UNC field hockey team.  She was recognized as part of the All-ACC and All-American teams.  From 2001-2012, Swensen was a goalkeeper for the Team USA hockey team.  During that time, she participated in the 2006 Field Hockey World Cup and was named goalkeeper of the tournament.  She played in the Olympic games in Beijing (2008) and London (2012).  In 2012, Swensen became an assistant field hockey coach at Old Dominion University.  Currently, she is a site director and goalkeeping coach with Focus Field Hockey Club, and she coaches field hockey for Vault Athletics and Fitness.

Swensen lives in Virginia Beach, VA with her husband, Mark, her two sons, Ivan (age 6) and Zeke (age 3), and their Mastiff dog, Floyd.  She enjoys working out, reading, and spending time at the beach with her family.  The things that Swensen most appreciated about her time at NL were the “wonderful caring teachers and coaches.  I miss the country now that I’m living in Virginia Beach.  I really miss running on back roads; it’s so beautiful in PA!”  The following is Swensen’s advice for current students: Do what you love; love what you do.”
