Northern Lebanon's Continuity of Education Plan

Message to Families: School Closure Extension

Dear Parents and Community Members:

As you know, Northern Lebanon School District has been closed over the past several weeks to help prevent the further spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community. A few moments ago, Governor Wolf ordered an extension to the school closures in our state.  Per the latest guidance from Governor Wolf and PDE, schools will be closed through at least April 8, 2020.  At this time, we are unsure if the closure will be extended again.  We will provide updates on further closures as well as how the return date impacts Spring Break as information becomes available.

The closures will continue to affect all NLSD programming, including before- and after-school activities, all athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions, and all weekend events.

This week, our teachers and staff are preparing to provide online activities to students. We are preparing our staff to continue activities through the end of the school year, if needed. By early next week, teachers will be reaching out to students to establish which students are in need of technology or internet access.  We will then work on alternate arrangements for students that need it. Our intention is to start slowly and increase activities as students become comfortable with online learning. If you have any questions about how these activities will be delivered, please contact your child’s building principal.

This has been an incredibly challenging time for the entire NLSD community. I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation. We will continue to keep you updated via email, text, social media, and our website, at www.norleb.org.

Once again, thank you.

Sincerely,

Gary R Messinger Jr, Superintendent

GENERAL INFORMATION

Communities around the country are preparing for a potential wide-spread outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).  Preparedness begins with you.  The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has background and preparation information available for the public here:

We are providing this additional information as a resource, which has been provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health specifically for schools.

General Preventative Measures

  • Cover - any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, do not use your hands
  • Clean - surfaces frequently; wash hands often with soap and water; use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Contain - if you are sick, stay home until you are feeling better

The district has plans in place to prepare for and respond to health or safety issues that may impact us. We will continue to modify these plans as a part of our on-going safety and security preparedness planning.
