East Hanover Elementary is located at 1098 School House Road in Annville, PA. It sits within East Hanover Township of Lebanon County, which is primarily a rural, agricultural community. The valley of East Hanover Township is bordered on the northwest by the Blue Mountain (the Kittatinny Ridge) and on the southeast, in the Lebanon County area, by the South Mountains. The southern border of East Hanover Township is mostly defined by the winding Swatara Creek.

East Hanover Elementary currently houses approximately 200 students in grades one through five. There are two dynamic teachers at each grade level with most class sizes at or below 20 students. Our small class sizes promote strong personal connections between teachers, students, and families. We strive to develop these relationships and work as partners with parents to ensure the success of each child.

While we are proud of the academic success of our students! We, as life-long learners in education, continually search for ideas and strategies to improve our craft. We foster an environment of collaboration within the building and learn from each other. Our primary grade (1-2) and intermediate grades (3-5) have introduced new English Language Arts (ELA) materials with the goal of increasing our overall ELA scores and improving reading instruction. The Superkids Reading Program is being used in grades K-2. It is a core literacy curriculum for primary grades that teaches all aspects of reading seamlessly integrated with the language arts. It is built on scientific research and proven pedagogy and combines rigorous instruction with highly motivating materials. Intermediate grades are using Wonders by McGraw Hill. This literacy program is designed to move students ahead through research-tested strategies, purposeful technology, and powerful data that informs instruction.

In addition to standards-aligned materials for instruction, East Hanover also offers classes in the arts and extra-curricular opportunities. We currently have band and chorus performances in which fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate. This year, all students attended the musical production presented by our high school students! We also have projects throughout the school which are completed by students under the guidance of the art teacher - murals, mosaics, sculptures, etc. Intramurals and other extra-curricular clubs are offered as well, but can vary from year to year. Two of our popular clubs this year include the running club and a robot club where students are learning to code. Each grade level also attends at least one educational field trip opportunity. These trips are an extension of the curriculum and give an enhanced opportunity for learning outside of the classroom. We provide a wealth of opportunities beyond just academics to support the development of the whole child.

Technology is a great asset at East Hanover Elementary! All student have their own device for use at school and at home. Students in grades 1-4 currently receive and iPad and our fifth graders receive Chromebooks. The 1:1 device initiative provides a tool for teachers to use within their daily lessons to supplement instruction and extend thinking and learning. Each classroom is also equipped with an ceiling mounted data projector and interactive whiteboard for use in whole group instruction. Students are not on their devices all day, but rather have opportunities to increase their 21st century skills at appropriate times when directed by the teacher. Technology opens the door to many resources, communications, and creativity in problem solving and collaboration that are beneficial to learning.

East Hanover Elementary is a warm, collaborative and community friendly school! We have great pride in our teachers, programs, students and community! We strive to provide unique experiences, improve academic progress, and create positive connections with families to promote and celebrate the success of each of our students!
