Daryl Hess graduated from NL in 1986.  He attended Lebanon Valley College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1990.  He later added a teaching certification from LVC, and he has been teaching math at Northern Lebanon for 26 years.  Hess was an assistant baseball coach for four years at NL, and he has been the head coach for 26 seasons.  He has been an assistant girls' basketball coach for the last 10 years.  He was also an assistant coach for boys' basketball and soccer at NL, and an assistant men's basketball coach at LVC for 2 years.  Hess played basketball and baseball for 4 years while at LVC and played soccer, basketball, and baseball while at NL.  As an LVC basketball player, Hess was both a 1,000 point scorer and a season MVP.  On the LVC baseball team, he was honored as team MVP and ECAC DIII All-Star pitcher.  He was an assistant basketball coach in 1994 when LVC reached the NCAA DIII National Championship.  In 2019, Hess was inducted into the Lebanon Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Hess currently resides just outside of Jonestown, PA.  He enjoys spending time with his nephews and nieces and their families.  His passion for sports has been a lifelong pursuit, and he still loves coaching and watching different sports.  Regarding his time at NL, Hess reflects: “I enjoyed my years at NL.  I had great teachers that prepared me for college and for life.  A lot of those teachers were also my coaches.  Those coaches taught us the correct way to play but also taught us how to be part of a team and work together.  I was also very fortunate to have great classmates who are still close friends of mine.”  The following is Hess’ advice for current NL students: Enjoy your time in high school.  It goes by quickly.  Find something that you really enjoy doing and pursue it for a future career.
