Viking for Life: Couples Edition!

Katie Gehman graduated from NL in 2010. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education degree from Millersville University in 2016, with a dual major in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. Katie currently teaches at Infinity Charter School for Gifted Students in Harrisburg, PA, where she teaches third and fourth grade. She is currently working toward getting a Middle Level Education certification with a concentration in English Language Arts. Within the next year, she will be pursuing a Master’s degree.

Katie’s husband, Cody Gehman, graduated from NL in 2011. He graduated magna cum laude from Shippensburg University in 2015, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree within a dual major in Accounting and Finance. Cody is currently the practice manager of Stonebridge Financial Group in Harrisburg. There he oversees the operations of regional financial advisory offices where they provide financial advisory services. He also received his Series 7 and 66 licenses that allow him to provide financial advice regarding the stock market. Prior to that position, he gained his Certified Public Accountant designation in 2016 and was the Financial Controller of Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs where he was on the leadership team that spearheaded the revival of the historic property.

Cody and Katie met in the fall 2006 when they joined the high school drum line. They have been together since September 2007 and were married in June 2016. Cody and Katie have recently moved back to Lebanon County after living in Harrisburg for a few years. They enjoy a very low-key life outside of their jobs and spend as much time together as possible. Cody composes percussion music and is an avid football fan, while Katie enjoys cooking and collecting books. During their time at NL, Cody and Katie most appreciated the following: “Our teachers in the music department made such an impact on us. Gregory Innes and Molly Masser not only taught us musicianship, but also the importance of discipline. The values that they instilled in us have endured through high school and into our professional lives today. When we think back to our most favorite memories, they take place on the stage and in the band room. We are so grateful for the countless opportunities we were given to practice, perform and share our musical gifts with an audience. Our lives were forever influenced by them and thank you will never be enough.” The following is their advice for current NL students: What you do in high school matters and your grades are important. Take academics seriously. Living with the regret of not applying yourself outweighs the lack of motivation you are feeling to complete an assignment. The content will always get harder, and you will either sink or swim. Do your very best in everything you do. Your success has everything to do with you. Your life is going to grow in ways that you can’t even imagine yet. The opportunities that lie outside of high school are far beyond your comprehension but not far beyond your grasp. The world is so much bigger than high school, but never forget where you came from. Appreciate and reflect on your past, but do not let it hold you back. Move away. Meet new people. Learn new things and embrace the world beyond your front door.
