What is the FAFSA?
In order to qualify for financial aid in college, including federal, state, local and private entities, students must complete a FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA application determines eligibility for loans, scholarships, grants, and work-study. FAFSA is available after January 1 for the upcoming academic year and each college and state set specific deadlines for completion. FAFSA requires the household tax return, so keep this in mind when timing your application.
